Roger Penske is making a bid for Saturn.

The 72-year old Penske, the highly successful head of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Penske Automotive Group, which operates more than 300 franchises in the United States and internationally, selling 40 different brands, told the Paul Smith Show on WJR radio in Detroit on Tuesday morning that he’s not interested in manufacturing Saturns, but in distributing them between the factories and their dealers.

Will Power swears his name is not a joke or a carefully crafted moniker put together by a public relations team.
To be honest, the IndyCar driver’s mother wanted to call him Liam. His father suggested they instead name their son after his great grandfather.

TALLADEGA, Ala. – Penske Racing owner Roger Penske said he plans to have Sam Hornish Jr. return to the organization’s Sprint Cup stable in 2011.
A three-time Indy Racing League champion, Hornish is in his third full season in the series and the last year of his contract.

DETROIT – General Motors says it’s in the early stages of exclusive negotiations (a memorandum of understanding, or MOU) to sell Saturn division to Penske Automotive Group. The man whose team won the Indianapolis 500 this year, Roger Penske, will sign franchise agreements with any of the 353 Saturn dealers that want to remain in the business of selling new cars.

DETROIT — As time grows short for General Motors’ June 1 reorganization deadline to avoid bankruptcy, reports are gathering steam that Roger Penske’s Penske Automotive Group is planning to bid for GM’s Saturn unit. GM’s restructuring plan calls for elimination of the brand by year’s end, although the company has said it could continue to build Saturns under contract to any new owner until the end of 2011.
